I WAS absolutely appalled to read in the Mercury recently the council is thinking of disposing of the Playhouse and Winter Gardens. These attractions are two of Weston's jewels and to even consider for one minute of disposing of these assets is dreadful and very short sighted. So they run at a loss, but what about all the trade brought into the town from people who visit these venues and also have a meal or shop etc. Money can always, it seems, be found to maintain idiotic things like the Silica, which as far as I can tell nobody wanted, money which would be worth using to subsidise the Playhouse and Winter Gardens. There are not many resorts which have anything comparable.JILL CHAPLIN - Highbury Road, Weston
