SO, our much-maligned local councillors have decided to impose an all-year-round ban on people walking their dogs on the beach i.e. between Royal Sands and the Grand Pier. Well, you have got to hand it to them. They really are blazing a trail here when it comes to finding new and innovative ways of alienating their electorate. What's the new slogan going to be I wonder: "Tough on people enjoying themselves, tough on the causes of people enjoying themselves? How lucky we all are to live in a town where the 'big ideas' include charging people for parking outside their own homes, ensuring the long lamented 'Tropicana' will have been conspicuous by its absence for almost a decade by the time it finally gets rebuilt, and threatening to close 'Barcode', one of the few amenities our much neglected, decent young people can enjoy. Personally, I'll miss walking the dogs along the full length of the beach during the 'off season'. I genuinely never realised that I was doing anyone any harm, and those four miles or so, from Knightstone down to Uphill and back, provided a good opportunity to unwind and reflect.
