I WISH to add my comments to A F Brent's letter (Mercury, April 24) to say I agree James Scott's design for the Tropicana is brilliant. We don't want a cheap and tacky block of flats (sorry, hotel) with a tiny pool (six lanes), massive bowling alley (20 lanes) and another cinema 400 yards away from the current one. We do want to a large swimming pool with a retractable roof and the continued use of the beach lawns as a recreation area instead of a car park. Surely councillors shouldn't have to just rely on people writing letters/signing petitions and accessing web-sites. They should already know what we want and be actively trying to carry out our wishes. As the new Lifestation doesn't seem to provide the necessary swimming facilities for schools, perhaps teachers, parents and children should get more involved in the promotion of Jim Scott's design to ensure every local child has the opportunity to learn to swim.RITA GRANNER - Langport Road, Weston
