FOR the last 30 years or so, I and my family, like many others, have spent our holidays and even some weekends around Weston. We have witnessed the development of hundreds of new homes and retail units but there does not appear to have been any adequate schemes for road building capable of handling the additional traffic. Since my retirement seven years ago, I have spent up to two months of the year residing in the area. I am finding the traffic congestion more and more frustrating, noticeably from around the North Somerset Courthouse, over the M5 and along the A370 to Bristol via both sets of traffic lights at Congresbury. Furthermore, progress through Yatton and Banwell can be a nightmare. All of this is made much worse whenever there is the slightest problem on the M5. So you can imagine my surprise when I read in the Weston Mercury that North Somerset Council has, by over £12million, 106 payments unspent. I do hope this neglect in dealing with traffic matters does not discourage holidaymakers from visiting Weston. I have to admit I can find better things to do with my time than sit in jams cussing and swearing. I wish that my local council could afford the luxury of sitting on £12million of unspent money.JOHN BIRD - Brownhills West, West Midlands
