I'M CONDUCTING some research on the Weston-super-Mare and District Tramways for a page on my reference web site dedicated to tramway company uniform buttons of the British Isles (http://www.birches.plus.com).Right now the WSM & DT is causing me a few headaches - the company was owned by British Electric Traction (BET) and it therefore seems likely that tramway staff were issued the standard 'Magnet and Wheel' BET button; however, I have no photographic, or for that matter any other evidence, to indicate if this is true. Most systems had specific buttons (i.e., company title or initials) or had patterns from the larger concerns of which they were a constituent part, but so far I have drawn a complete blank with the Weston system. If any reader has a uniform button, a photo, or even anecdotal evidence about the tramways staff uniforms prior to 1937, I'd love to hear from them.ASHLEY BIRCHTel: 01663 735358; e-mail, Ashley@birches.plus.com
