IT IS worth reminding the public that there are two categories of dog owner - responsible and irresponsible. It is the latter of the two that I write to as a gentle reminder.Back in the mid 1950s there was a famous case of dog mess left on the playing area of a famous football club's training ground. The club in question was Sheffield Wednesday. One of their star players at the time was an international by the name of Derek Dooley.Derek grazed his leg during a training session on the dog mess infected ground and, because the wound was not satisfactory cleaned, a very small amount of infected dirt remained in his wound and gangrene set in. Within a very short time the player had his leg amputated, thereby destroying a very promising career, all this when players were only allowed to earn a maximum of £20 per week with very little insurance cover. At the time there was a big stink about it, excuse the pun.So it is to all these irresponsible dog owners who continually let their pets poo anywhere and cannot be bothered to clean up after them that this letter is addressed to. Furthermore it is because of their irresponsibility that all dogs and their owners, good or bad, have been banned from the beach. The message is clear enough. If your dog makes a mess, clean up after it. DEREK STANLEY - Castle Hill, Banwell
