THE computer generated images of the proposed redevelopment of the Dorville Hotel in Weston, published in the mercury last week, looked pretty dire.Everyone wants to see the hotel redeveloped and brought back to life, but the uninspiring modernist block of flats being proposed can do little but harm the Birnbeck area.Residents in the area and all readers of the Mercury can ask the developers to think again by objecting to the application. Council planners will have the chance to stop this scheme in its tracks. The developer says its original, and better, 2006 plans cannot be delivered due to council intransigence. As a former councillor I find that very disappointing. Some of us worked hard to progress a quality scheme and have pressed council officials for action.Surely there is still a chance to think again and do the right thing - or must we blindly ruin another part of our town through red tape and short sightedness?MIKE BELL - Prospective Liberal Democrat MP for Weston
