Yes, North Somerset Council is dragging its heels over the re-opening of the Valley Road civic amenity site.I suspect that they knew about the problem well in advance of April but failed to provide a budget to deal with it.One report even states, once a contractor is found it will have to wait for council debate at an official meeting. Many people now fear it will not re-open before April 2007. The nesting falcons was a valid excuse for not carrying out the physical work but they will not be able to find any answer as to why a contractor was not sought during the waiting time. The Valley Road site was closed with great emphasis on public safety; obviously then council members have not made a visit the Backwell site which is totally inadequate capacity wise and violates just about every basic health and safety rule in existence. I wish to point out that the employees working there are doing everything they can with the equipment provided. North Somerset is well aware of this tip's shortcomings because it is trying to replace it In summary, we have three tips in the area, the largest one is closed, one is inadequate heath and safety wise and the other (Weston) is primarily the main processing plant with a small civic amenity attached to it.Your other feature on page four regarding the Clevedon waste bins is obviously linked to the tip being closed.
