I think the article 'council tax swallowed up by elderly people' is a lot of hot air and as usual targets the vulnerable. It is also, in my opinion, a dangerous article without facts or figures (what about the cost of drug addicts, the unmarried mothers and councillor's salaries to name a few drains) and could incite a small minority of small minded disgruntled people to physically harm or abuse the elderly. Those of us in our 70s and 80s who now need help living were not cushioned from birth by social services and few of us during our working lives needed assistance from the State - a conveniently forgotten fact.Lastly there is no proof that the over 50s. who were ridiculously included in the survey, will, when they eventually retire 'swallow up council tax' because, according to statistics, every new generation of pensioners are more active and healthy than the last.Name and address supplied
