I WOULD like to refer to your article in the Mercury regarding the proposed play area on the green at Wick St Lawrence.

I am a resident living around the green and attended the local parish council meeting held last Wednesday to discuss this matter.

The way it has been handled is a disgrace. The council have received 40 positive responses to their flyer and 415 negative responses by means of a petition raised by local residents. Yet Tricia Clark, chairperson of the local parish council, refuses to accept that her idea is not wanted by local residents. She has openly stated that she is on a mission to build this playground despite the views of the residents that she was elected to represent.

I am also sure that the Mercury would be interested to know that she wants to build this purely to spend the money that has been allocated by North Somerset Council. What a waste of our taxpayers money, use this for a cause that will benefit people don't build a playground that no one wants and that will surely be vandalised within 12 months.

If this is local democracy then it stinks.
