Re your front page article on July 5: We are horrified to hear of the proposed link road and cannot understand why it is thought to be necessary. We travel to Bristol from Clevedon every day through this countryside and cannot honestly say that we encounter any traffic hold up. This land is beautiful and one of the reasons we live here. Why does the West Country have to lose all the beautiful countryside? Over the past 20 years we've seen farmland sold off and redeveloped and the concrete jungle swallowing everything up. We are proud to live in such a beautiful area and cannot believe that anyone could contemplate running a road right through it all. With the airplane and helicopter traffic increasing we get more noise pollution over Clevedon now.If this has anything to do with hopes to expand the airport at Bristol we do not want to have to live with the increased traffic and noise pollution that this would create either. Will there be anywhere in Britain one can live with some countryside soon?Mr and Mrs N Patt - Via e-mail
