I AM writing in response to an article on the staffing cuts at the Weston General Hospital. The article stated that the RCN was taking action against the trust for ignoring formal consultation periods. Both UNISON and the RCN raised this very issue at the Trust Consultative meeting last month and the chief executive apologised for not giving the full period of 30 days for various consultations and stated that this would not happen in the future. The staff and the unions fully understand the problems that the trust is facing, we want to work in partnership and we are only asking to be treated fairly. This means being fully consulted when reorganisations and job cuts are announced. All the staff working in the NHS are extremely committed to the organisation and its patients and in general put their problems to one side in favour of the trust.LIZ FRENCH - Regional Organiser UNISON
