WHAT'S happening within our council over should we have a casino? I remember last March Cllr Alan Hockridge informed the council they had missed a Government deadline in which to register a submission for a casino in North Somerset. Now we have news that one of our representatives say casinos have no place in North Somerset. All this is very well but a casino might be a godsend to Weston. In the early 60s we had at least five mini casinos here in Weston. All I can say is not one of the clubs to my knowledge had trouble with people getting into debt. Look at betting shops. They exist without causing problems. Weston needs to do something to bring people here and a casino would help to do this in the winter. If there are fears of criminal elements coming here, perhaps licences should be restricted to locals only.Let's hope we will have a real debate when our council do consider this important issue, or will they treat it as they appear to treat the other important issues they face on projects proposed in Weston?LAURENCE ORMEShrubbery Avenue, Weston
