THE North Somerset headteachers' associations, representing all the schools in the authority, would like to express their profound concern at the publication of the recent article concerning the disciplinary process involving our director, Colin Diamond.First, we were shocked and dismayed that what should be a strictly confidential matter has been leaked to the press. Secondly we are concerned that this reflects a failure of the council's duty of care for the individual concerned.Furthermore we are deeply unhappy at the costs of the investigation and disciplinary process in terms of the time that has had to be committed to it, the financial cost and the impact it must have had on the morale of senior staff in Children's and Young People's Services.Following the publication of the Joint Area Review, heads wish to express their confidence in Mr Diamond's ability to lead the service forward.CAROL PENNEYChair of Heads Across North Somerset
