I WOULD like to comment on the letter and photo in last week's Mercury headlined 'Facilities for families and children'.Firstly, I think it is unfair to show a picture of the Beach Lawns with a caption 'Deserted' on obviously a wet day last week. I believe the Beach Lawns are a space to be used by both public and for organised events, obviously there are only so many events that can be held on them without ruining the grass. The lawns do host the very successful Helidays each July and the lawns look nice along the seafront rockery.I believe there are many positives in Weston, Knightstone Island is taking shape and I look forward to walking round the island again. Birnbeck Pier has been bought by a company, Urban Splash, which appears to have a good track record of restoring buildings, etc., and the Tropicana will hopefully progress in the near future.Weston also offers many events including the Red Arrows display and T4 on the beach pop concert and also has attractions including the Grand Pier, SeaQuarium and Helicopter Museum. In fact, the whole town seems to have things being spruced up. One of note is the seafront Macfarlane Coalbrookdale fountain which is being repainted and is really coming on, so well done to the council and the man doing such an excellent job painting it.
