GOODBYE dear Weston, you were so super, but for what is left of you and being done to you, I grieve.Look what has been taken away from you and has helped your decline: the bus station; the outdoor swimming pool; the children's boating/paddling pond; Knightstone swimming pools and baths, plus a theatre; Rozel Bandstand where once lovely music could be heard as one strolled along the prom or sat and enjoyed; the Rose Gardens; the sunken garden, sheltered from all weathers, except rain; the big lamp corner where one could congregate on New Year's Eve and celebrate without any trouble being caused, just good fun. What is there now to give you strength! There is a monstrosity which very few were in favour of, nicknamed the Carrot - more resembling a cement mixer! A so-called bus stop shelter which holds no more that three people.Lastly, your beautiful Beach Lawns are to be destroyed to accommodate a car park for the new building which is to be built - a cinema, so goodbye the Odeon, a hotel to help put the other hotels out of business trying to compete, a bowling alley, so goodbye the one in Carlton Street. Weston, no wonder you are feeling weak! The beautiful woods are being chopped down, for what? More developments of flats? Beware you ratepayers of dear Weston, do not go away from home too long or you may come back to a block of flats built in your garden whilst you have been away!Oh, to have Weston before so-called improvements and Crockford-Hawley.V HARVEY - Swiss Road, Weston
