IT SEEMS the Government is cutting back on spending on sea defences, this at a time when it is being predicted that the Bristol Channel will be increasingly subjected to the kind of tides which doomed New Orleans.Simultaneously, the South West Spatial Strategy proposes the building of even more houses around Weston and on the low-lying land of North Somerset. Whatever happened to the idea of joined up Government?About the only land which would be suitable for housing is occupied by Bristol airport, and the Government wishes to see that expand despite the risks it poses to the community.
