I COULD not believe it, police officers being used to lecture primary school pupils about the dangers of smoking. These officers are also being trained at Portishead to deliver the lectures, presumably by other police officers. In the Mercury on the same week we read of senior citizens having to drive off yobs from ruining their band concert, a man being kicked so badly his face was unrecognisable, and also sustaining brain damage, the police no doubt claiming they have not got the resources to deal with these incidents.I would like to know, when North Somerset Council and Weston Hospital have recently hired an anti-smoking officer, and no doubt teachers are quite capable of telling their pupils that smoking is dangerous, why are the police doing this?CLLR CLIVE WEBB - Priory Road, Weston
