I AM writing to show my dismay at the council decision to ban dogs on the beach all year round. Why not just insist that dogs are on leads and provide more dog bins?My dog travels everywhere with us. He is part of the family and, to us, a very important member. Now however, our trips to the seaside are severely dampened because the children and their dad have to walk or play on the beach, whilst I walk on the prom! Picnics on the beach - they're out! I'd have to sit on the wall with our dog. How is this supposed to help keep 'family values', doing activities together?I always thought the beach to be a public place, like the parks. So why ban dogs from them? The parks have far more children playing in them and yet no tide to take away the odd dog poo which an inattentive owner may leave. If you ban dogs, why not cars too? They can leak oil on the beach - by far a worse pollutant. Or even sand yachts, which could run into a person at high speed. Or kites which could come down on an unsuspecting bystander. When a person chooses to take a dog on the beach let them obey pickup laws or pay the price. Why does the council presume to take the responsibility by banning all dog owners from the beach? We all have to take individual responsibility for the actions of our pets. Please let us take that responsibility and not spoil everyone's fun for the mistakes of a few.MRS C LEACH - Address supplied
