THE proposals to slash disabled parking bays by 40 per cent as part of the plans to introduce on-street parking charges in Weston are another sign that this new council wants only to do the minimum necessary. We all know that Weston has an above average population of senior citizens, many with mobility problems. We all know that many thousands of senior citizens holiday in Weston every year - boosting our economy and tourism trade. So why slap them in the face with a big reduction in the number of blue badge bays? The council must think again and at least preserve the present number of disabled bays. Doing so would see 13 per cent of on street spaces reserved for those with mobility problems. Surely that is not too much to ask?MIKE BELL - Liberal Democrat prospective MP for Weston-super-Mare
