'CLEAN it up' - so says a notice in the Prince Consort Gardens referring to dog mess, but could the people responsible for the upkeep of the gardens please read it? I was alerted, by an elderly lady, to the unsafe railings on the steps from Birkett Road.

'CLEAN it up' - so says a notice in the Prince Consort Gardens referring to dog mess, but could the people responsible for the upkeep of the gardens please read it?I was alerted, by an elderly lady, to the unsafe railings on the steps from Birkett Road. They are very badly rusted and you cannot walk up one side of the steps because of overhanging shrubs. On another set of steps the bottom portion of rails has been removed completely.Walking around the rest of the gardens I noticed the stonework has been allowed to disintegrate to a dangerous degree. The shelter overlooking Birnbeck Pier, dated 1900, has not seen a paintbrush for a good number of years and the woodwork is rotting badly. Has this little gem been allowed to fall apart so it too can be demolished? The yachting pond seems sound but is partly full of rubbish. A manhole cover nearby has been left half open. The whole picture of what should be one of the best spots of Weston is of (wilful?) neglect. Is there any maintenance schedule? If those responsible are not interested could they please make way for those who are.ROBERT CLELAND - South Road, Weston
