WHAT happened to peace and quiet? We are now living in a world of 24-hour noise, pubs pumping out live music and karaoke, nightclubs thumping out disco, drunks falling out between two and four in the morning shouting at one another through too much alcohol, and gangs of youths thinking it's funny to moon at passing cars. And just as we doze off at 5am along come dustcarts at 7am with whirring machinery lifting bins and beeping to indicate they are reversing, and cement mixers, pile drivers cranes and drills, even on a Sunday. Then the jet skis start up and the speed boats that sound like they are powered by jet engines, helicopters buzzing around and flights arriving into Bristol. And last but not least the bank holiday weekend arrives and we have hundreds of motorbikes roaring up and down the Birnbeck Road,No wonder we are all stressed, on Valium or taking sleeping pills, none of us are getting a good night's sleep. What happened to the days of 8.30am-5.30pm working and when you could sit listening to the waves lapping in the seashore?SUSAN LOCK - Birnbeck Road, Weston
