THE demonstration at the Town Hall objecting to our councillors voting themselves extortionate pay rises was pathetic and proved beyond any shadow of a doubt that they are free to do as they please. This was made clear by the smirks on councillors' faces as they skulked into the chamber to vote clearly thinking: "Only 40 (approximately) objectors in the whole of Weston to our greedy rise, let's go ahead, and next year we can do the same again. They don't frighten us."If just one person from every household in Weston that buys the Weston & Somerset Mercury had been at that demonstration I'm sure the town centre would have been gridlocked. Wouldn't that have given our greedy councillors something to think about?More people demonstrated to get the beach ban on dogs lifted and that only affected a minority of people in comparison, but it worked.Just what will our councillors have to do before the people of Weston say enough is enough?ROBERT LOWE - The Swallows, Locking Castle
