A cheque for £1,700 has been presented to a children’s charity after almost 100 people walked part or all of the Strawberry Line.

The Yeo Valley Lions Club held its seventh annual Strawberry ‘Lion’ Challenge in May where people of all ages walked for Springboard Opportunities Group and their own chosen charities.

The challenge is a 50:50 sponsored event which enables participants to raise money for their own clubs or charities as well as the Lions’ charities.

The event was well supported by the local girl guiding groups, North Somerset Young Carers and Cintre, a charity which assists adults with learning difficulties.

While the younger walkers completed the five-mile walk from Yatton Station to the Fisheries Café in Congresbury, the serious competitors went all the way to Axbridge and back.

The money has now been given to Springboard.

The club will host the event again next year on May 19 to raise more money for charity.
