Weston Operatic Society has raised more than £1,700 for Weston Hospicecare.

The society presented the hospice with a cheque for £1,750.55 after raising the funds from bucket collections during five performances of its Half A Sixpence production at The Playhouse, in High Street.

The society was founded in 1908, but this was the first time its members had performed the revised version of the musical based on HG Wells’ novel.

The cast was made up of 40 people, aged from 10 years old and upwards.

Society member Karen Mills said: “Everyone worked really hard to put on a fantastic show.

“It was an incredible way to end our Half A Sixpence season by presenting the amazing team at Weston Hospicecare with such a hefty cheque.

“Thank you to everyone who came to see the show and donated, we couldn’t have raised this much money without you.”
