10 food and drink events to visit this September

A SERIES of events will be held throughout North Somerset to celebrate some of the food and drink on offer across the district.

The Made In North Somerset Festival is co-ordinated by the economic development service at North Somerset Council.

Its aim is to raise awareness of the high-quality arts, crafts, food and drink made in North Somerset.

It culminates in the showcase at Tyntesfield on October 3-4 from 10am-4pm.

But in the build-up to that finale, there will be a host of other activities staged, including the following:

Yeo Valley HQ Canteen in Blagdon is throwing open its doors every weekday to invite people to try its award-winning dining experience. People can visit from 12.30-2pm, but pre-booking is essential by calling Jill on 01761 461425.

■ Lye Cross Farm makes Cheddar cheese using traditional methods. You can tour the farm in Lye Cross Road, Redhill on Saturday from 10am-2pm.

■ Find out how Thatchers makes its ciders at Myrtle Farm in Sandford from 11am-3pm on Saturday. You can visit the cider mill, the orchards and take part in the all-important tasting.

■ Aldwick Court Farm in Emley Lane, Redhill, opened its first vineyard in 2008. Visitors can gain an insight into its history and sample some of its wine on Sunday. There are tours, priced £6 per person, at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Booking is essential, by calling 01934 864404.

■ RCH Brewery in West Hewish is demonstrating how it makes its ales on September 18 from 2-4pm. Book a place by calling Paul Davey on 01934 834447.

■ Bird In The Hand pub in Weston Road, Long Ashton, is holding a feasting evening on September 18 at 7pm, priced £35. To book, call 01275 395222.

■ Learn about brewing with Butcombe Brewery on September 26 from 11am-3pm. There will be tours and samples at the brewery in Cox’s Green, Wrington.

The Chocolate Tart is a cookery school in Kent Road, Congresbury. Join a workshop, priced £25, on September 26 at 10am-12.30pm, or make champagne truffles, priced £15, on October 4 from 11-11.45am. Book by emailing info@thechocolatetart.co.uk
