Sedgemoor District Council has this week given the go-ahead for 17 new homes to be built in Burnham, despite objections from people in the town.

The homes will be built next to the town’s Tesco store, in Ben Travers Way.

While the original application was approved back in February 2014, EG Carter and Co had to seek consent on issues including the layout and scale of the site as part of the conditions.

Since then, the company has updated its application and it was finally approved at the district council’s planning meeting.

Residents were invited to give their feedback on the plans in December, with concerns arising about how access to the Tesco would be altered.

As well as this, some people felt their privacy would be affected if the houses were to be built to the west of the store.

However, the development will now go ahead after three years of uncertainty.
