A CASH boost of £180,000 has been given to a Weston project which gives people greater access to green spaces.

The Big Lottery Fund announced its support for the Growing Together scheme, which operates at three sites around the Bournville.

Growing Together was launched by Alliance Homes, which manages social housing on behalf of North Somerset Council, and is run in partnership with The Avon Wildlife Trust and The For All Healthy Living Centre.

It offers people the chance to gain an RHS qualification as well as take part in volunteering and training opportunities, and the funding will allow for two new project workers.

Project development worker Mary Morgan said: “This is our chance to realise the vision that local people have for this project, which is to make people who live in this area aware of the beautiful natural world around them.

“Although statistically the area is deprived and disadvantaged, it is also a vibrant, interesting, exciting and rewarding diverse environment that we can help to protect for the next generation.

“The project aims to support volunteers and encourage many more to get out and start having fun and learning new skills.”
