A man who lost five teeth and suffered a shattered jaw from a single punch during a late-night assault is offering a £1,000 reward for information which leads to his attacker’s arrest.

The 53-year-old man, who lives in Weston but has asked not to be named, was walking home after a night out when he was punched to the ground in the early hours of March 13.

Police are today issuing a CCTV image of a man seen in the area of the Oxford Street incident and urging witnesses to contact them with information.

Should it lead to the attacker being convicted, it could see the witness earn a cash reward from a victim who has suffered huge pain from the attack.

The injured man said: “When I was punched I lost three teeth and I have had to have a further two removed. This has meant that I find it difficult to eat; as such I have lost a lot of weight.

“I am still in a lot of pain. The impact of the blow has shattered my jaw. I required two metal plates to secure my jaw and the bones were secured to the plates with 16 screws.

“To complete the operation the medical staff had to cut into my face and open the jaw which has resulted in me having to have a number of stiches and my face swelling up.

“I lost two weeks work. I have also lost my confidence in being able to go out in town. Since the attack my self-esteem has been hit and I find it difficult to build up the confidence to go out.

“I did nothing to provoke this attack and I am willing to put up my own money to try to identify the person who assaulted me as I do not want somebody else to go through the pain and suffering I have been going through.”

PC Matt Christie is investigating the assault. He told the Mercury: “Incidents like this are rare for Weston. The town has really good CCTV coverage and I would think that anyone who knows this man would recognise him.

“I would ideally like him to come forward and tell me anything he knows about this incident, but I’d ask anyone who recognises him or who has any other information which could help the investigation to get in touch, quoting ref 5216054431.”
