Long Ashton Golf Club junior have started the season in fine form.

THE competitive season for Long Ashton Golf Club juniors is well underway.

In their Bristol and District Cup match against Clevedon, Ross Porter, Nathan Moore, Will Lewis, Annabel Pring, Milan Reed and Louis Ross travelled to Clevedon.

The youngsters put in a fine performance to beat Clevedon 2-1. Special mention goes to Milan Reed and Louis Ross, who were playing in their first fixture.

The club had two teams entered into the Alexander Trophy at Filton Golf Club, finishing second and fourth, out of 19 teams.

Long Ashton A: Nathan Moore 37 pts; Annabel Pring 33; Ben Tooth 40. Long Ashton B: Alexandra Giles 36 pts; Will Lewis 38; Sam Harrison 35.

Jack Pring, Nathan Moore and Will Lewis entered a county 36-hole Stableford event to determine which club would represent Gloucestershire in the national finals at Woodhall Spa.

Lewis claimed the prize for the best morning round with 38 points. Good scoring by all three boys in the afternoon saw them finish in second place for the second year running.

In the Avon Schools Championships, held at Saltford, the girls’ event was won by Chloe Wedlake, who will now represent Avon in the next round of the tournament.

Jack Pring captained the Gloucestershire Under-18s side which won the Midland four counties event.

Nathan Moore and Will Lewis both scored maximum points for Gloucestershire Under-14s in their match against Somerset in their 8-4 victory.

Alex Giles took part in the Scottish Under-16 girls’ competition, reducing her handicap to 8.4. She has also been selected to play for the county ladies’ first team.

Will Lewis gained the second nett prize at the Knowle Junior Open, and qualified for the last 16 of the Stevens knockout at Long Ashton. His handicap has now come down to 9.5

Jack Pring, Nathan Moore and Alex Giles all took part in the Faldo series at Pyle and Kenfig, a 54-hole tournament. Jack finished tied 18th, Nathan 38th out of 58 boys and Alex 11th girl.

Louis Ross won the first event of the year in the First for Golf series, held at Thornbury, while Sam Harrison reduced his handicap to 28 following a fine second place in the Stableford tournament at Shirehampton

Samuel Jackson has gained his first handicap – 28.

Junior golf evenings are held on Monday evenings for juniors without a handicap. These will run throughout the summer from 5-7pm led by Mike Hart and Andrea White.

Thursday evening golf, for all juniors with at least a club handicap, has also started. The first evening was a junior order of merit, with Milan Reed and Louis Ross setting the early pace.

New members Macy Edwards and Lomax Moore were welcomed to the club as new members.
