REVELLERS in Weston will be sent messages on their mobile phones about safe and sensible drinking.

Two large projectors will also be in the town centre over the Easter weekend in a bid to tackle binge drinking and violent crime among young adults.

The scheme, called Know Your Limits, is a Government campaign and will use phone technology to send the free messages to people in bars and clubs in the town this Friday and Saturday.

The scheme will run in conjunction with the already existing street marshals, Street Safe Bus and the Who's Your Mate campaign, which will be launched on March 29 and will encourage clubbers to look out for each other on a night out.

Know Your Limits is being supported by the Crime and Drugs Reduction Partnership, as well as business owners in the town.

Chief inspector Nick Walker, from Avon and Somerset police, said: "This campaign is not about drinking but about being aware of the possible consequences of drinking excessively.

"We want people to have a good time without ending up in trouble."

Louis Macrides, who owns Destiny nightclub, said: "We want people to enjoy their evening out in Weston and as responsible licensees we want to promote safer drinking and public safety.
