SEDGEMOOR District Council will be responsible for picking up stray dogs out-of-hours from April 6.
SEDGEMOOR District Council will be responsible for picking up stray dogs out-of-hours from April 6.
The laws about stray dogs are changing and picking them up will be the job of local authorities, rather than police.
The council, which covers the Cheddar area, does not have kennelling available on site so alternative arrangements have been put in place.
Members of the public wishing to report a stray dog should call 0845 408 2546 during normal office hours or 01278 435209 during evenings and weekends.
Information about the extended service will soon be appearing at information points in veterinary practices, libraries and police stations.
