A 27-YEAR-OLD Weston man has been arrested in connection with the death of a father-of-two.
Darren Jones, aged 34, died on Friday at Frenchay Hospital. He had been taken there in the early hours of New Year's Day after being assaulted outside the Avonmouth Working Men's Club in Napier Square, Avonmouth. He underwent surgery but later died.
A post-mortem was undertaken but further expert examination will now take place to try to establish the exact cause of death.
The initial assault had not been reported to police, who were alerted to the incident by Mr Jones' family on the day of his death.
Mr Jones was a father of two daughters, aged six and 11 months. He worked as a forklift driver and warehouseman in Avonmouth.
The 27-year-old man from Weston, who was arrested in connection with the assault, has been bailed pending further enquiries.
