A TRADITIONAL village store is turning Walton-in-Gordano green.Cross Tree Stores, in Walton Street, sources locally produced wines, beers, meats, cheeses and jams to support nearby businesses and to reduce its carbon footprint. The shelves are full of Fairtrade products and villagers can also pop by to have their Ecover washing liquid bottles refilled.Proprietor, Emma Edwards, who was brought up in the village, said: "I like to encourage locally sourced products as much as I can. We also offer Ecover refills to promote recycling. "It's very much a traditional village shop but slightly updated."Walton-in-Gordano was without a village shop for more than 15 years, but when the owner of the property asked Emma (pictured right) to get the shop up and running again, she jumped at the chance.Emma, aged 37, who lives next to the store with her husband Keith and three children, Adam, Holly and Ben, said: "When there wasn't a shop here, we lost the hub of the village and I was very keen to get it back."It's now a place where villagers can come and meet their neighbours who they wouldn't see otherwise. "We're also an information point for what's going on in the village."I think the tide has turned and people like the friendliness of local shops again and being known by their shopkeeper."It's a service you don't tend to get at supermarkets.
