A NEW memorial award has been launched in Wedmore.

The family of Angela Vivian, an entrepreneur from the village who died in 2004, has got together with IT for the Terrified to award £500 to a group in the South West which has benefited the community.

Angela, who was born in 1937, experienced difficulties when trying to get funding for IT for the Terrified, a Wedmore-based group which teaches people computer skills.

Penny Vivian said: "Angela's work lives on in so many ways but we know how hard it was to get the money when IT for the Terrified first started. We want to bring focus on the South West with emphasis on projects that benefit rural communities."

Angela worked for the Inland Revenue for 44 years before receiving an OBE in 1991. When she left the profession, aged 60, she started her own consultancy named Angela Vivian Enterprises. She considered computing to be an essential part of modern life and soon got involved with IT for the Terrified.
