ASHTON Windmill Committee is seeking compensation from Sedgemoor District Council after a number of trees and shrubs were destroyed.
The shrubs were planted at the beauty spot near the Allertons a few years ago using grants from Chapel Allerton Parish Council.
However, the plants were cut down by Sedgemoor District Council workers in April and marks were also found on the ground where a bonfire had been started.
Chapel Allerton Parish Council is now writing to the district council to ask why the shrubs were cut back.
Windmill committee chairman David Dixon, said: "Sedgemoor District Council cut them down without consulting the villagers who planted them and those who look after the windmill.
"We are working to have them replaced.
