PEOPLE who gave their lives for their country were remembered at special parades around the district.In Clevedon, the Avon Glen Pipe Band led a parade through Queens Square where there was a wreath laying ceremony conducted by Clevedon Town Council chairman Bob Garner.The service was also attended by Woodspring MP Dr Liam Fox who also laid a wreath at the memorial.The parade, which then marched to the Salthouse Fields, followed a successful Festival of Remembrance at the community centre on Friday where music was performed by Portishead Town Band and local air cadets.In Backwell, the village branch of the Royal British Legion led the remembrance service and there was a two minute silence at the village war memorial.In Portishead the town's branch of the Royal British Legion led the parade through the High Street.The parade, which culminated with a service at St Peter's Church, was led by Portishead Town Band and the standards of the men's and women's sections of the legion.Representatives from the town's British Legion, army cadets, air cadets, lifeboat trust, fire brigade, scouts and guides also joined the parade.Also present were two members of the armed forces, serving Royal Marine Matthew Hiscocks and Submariner Craig Williams.
