SUPERMARKET giant Tesco has confirmed it will re-submit its plans to build a new multi million pound store in Clevedon - following further consultation with residents. The move comes after Tesco withdrew its plans to double the size of its store at Southern Way from 2,535 square metres to 5,588 square metres last month.Tesco says the new store would create a further 150 jobs for the town and the access will be from the existing roundabout at Kenn Road with the store being relocated from its current position so it backs onto Southern Way.But the application has sparked a wave of protest from local residents who say the new store would bring extra noise and traffic to the area.Local traders were also concerned about the impact a larger store would have on town centre business.Tesco bosses withdrew the original application, but say they will be back with a revised plan.Tesco spokesman Dan Bramwell said: "The application has been withdrawn and we are reviewing our consultation feedback."We will be resubmitting an application in due course following further consultation."Clevedon councillor and chairman of the town council planning and environment committee, John Norton-Sealey, said: "I am pleased the scheme has been withdrawn and I hope something more sensible and a scheme designed in consultation with the people of Clevedon can now be put forward."The current store was built 11 years ago and Tesco chiefs say the upgrade is needed to offer customers a better shopping experience with new lines being offered including clothing and electrical goods.
