PUBLIC loos in Weston have been shut for two weeks because of the number of people using drugs and leaving needles in them.
Police officers have been stumbling across people injecting substances like heroine on a daily basis in the toilets in the Boulevard next to Weston Library.
North Somerset Council, which is responsible for the toilets, was advised by the police to shut the facilities for now, which it has done.
Sergeant Pete Land of the town centre beat team said: "Officers are having daily meetings with drug-users injecting in the toilets.
"On one occasion recently a mother and child were waiting outside to use the toilet and the officers found someone injecting with heroine inside."
PC Paul Budd added: "It is not a good situation to find ourselves in.
"People who want to use the toilets legitimately cannot get in there because of people using them to take drugs."
The toilets are expected to be closed for two weeks while the council decides what measures it can take to help the situation.
