SEAFRONT skate parks, land train tours, talent contests, more play areas and low cost parking have all been put forward as ways to improve Weston by a new town task force. The ideas were discussed at the first meeting of Weston mayor's 'think tank' team at Grove House last week.Councillor John Ley-Morgan decided to set up the team to come up with ideas on how to tackle declining trade, lift the profile of the town and encourage more people to spend their leisure time in Weston. So far the team is made up of representatives from Weston Town Council, North Somerset Council, the Chamber of Trade and Commerce, business owners, the School's Federation, the Grand Pier, Weston Youth Council and members of the press.During the meeting members discussed the possibilities of developing the Marine Lake as a play area with beach huts, showers and live music and introducing a 'Weston's Got Talent' competition to encourage more visitors and engage the town's youngsters.Representatives from the Weston Chamber of Trade and Commerce said that a decline in trade could be avoided by developing a 'cafe culture' and later summer opening times to encourage young adults to stay in Weston instead of travelling to Bristol. The chamber also suggested that sea-facing properties were painted a variety of different colours to enhance the look of the seafront. The next meeting of the team is scheduled for July 25.
