A BLIND and partially deaf elderly woman has been subjected to a catalogue of neglect at Weston General Hospital, according to her relatives. Letitia Ricks, aged 82, of Coleridge Road on Weston's Bournville estate, has been in hospital since February 14 after she was admitted for a urinary infection. Since then she has spent time in four different wards at the hospital.Mrs Ricks spilled a cup of tea over herself while in the clinical support unit, but according to her granddaughter, Sophie Farmer, aged 25, she was not treated for two days despite informing nurses of what had happened. Ms Farmer, of Baildon Road on the Bournville, said: "It seemed to me the nurses didn't want to know."She is a blind old lady and was ringing the buzzer for more than an hour - I think something should be done about it."Ms Farmer also claimed when her grandmother was in the Kewstoke ward there were used tissues beneath some of the patients' beds and that the level of care from nurses was so bad they asked for her to be moved into another ward. The hospital declined to make any comment on the basis of patient confidentiality.
