CHEDDAR Reservoir may have to be shut for several weeks, while work is being carried out on a new treatment plant. Bristol Water has applied for planning permission to build the facility and may have to close off half the reservoir to dog walkers and joggers while pipes, currently circling the reservoir, go underground. A spokesman said: "We hope to start work in the Spring. The whole operation will take 18 months but the reservoir won't be shut for that long, hopefully it will be for just three weeks."The reservoir will still be accessible from the Cheddar entrance, but probably not the Axbridge one. The reservoir isn't a public footpath so we don't have to open it to the public at all."The work will cost the company an estimated £7.1million and is due to be completed early in 2008.
