A PORTISHEAD off-licence has been given new strict conditions for selling alcohol after staff were caught selling booze to youngsters.Smiles Store in High Street had the conditions imposed on them during a licensing review by North Somerset Council following the introduction of new licensing laws last year. The review followed a joint operation by the police and North Somerset Council's Trading Standards officers.Councillors placed nine conditions on the shop to tackle underage sales of alcohol. The store has to have security staff between 6pm and the end of the day on Fridays and Saturdays.A register of people refused alcohol and proof of age requirement for anyone looking under 21 was placed on the shop.Chief Inspector Nick Walker said: "I am delighted and pleased to see the licensed hearing procedure has been successful. "This will send out a strong warning to those involved in the management of licensed premises that they can no longer afford to be complacent and must rigidly apply licensing regulations under the new legislation introduced at the end of last year.
