WORK to strengthen a marine dock wall in Portishead is expected to make considerable noise. The sheet piling, which involves vibrating and hammering metal piles into the bedrock beneath, will begin at the Port Marine East Dock wall on Monday for 12 weeks.
WORK to strengthen a marine dock wall in Portishead is expected to make considerable noise.The sheet piling, which involves vibrating and hammering metal piles into the bedrock beneath, will begin at the Port Marine East Dock wall on Monday for 12 weeks.It is part of the £5.5million scheme to strengthen the existing wall.The contractors are warning people that the work will be very noisy during the project.North Somerset councillor Barry Waters said: "It's inevitable that these things will make noise and it's part of the regeneration project."Unfortunately this work has got to be done and it might as well get done as soon as possible."Work on the development has been restricted to between 8am and 6pm on Mondays to Fridays and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays by North Somerset Council.Persimmon Special Projects managing director Richard Briggs said: "Piling is expected to take approximately 12 weeks and it will cause some considerable noise as it involves vibrating and then hammering in the sheet piles deep into the underlying bedrock."A helpline has been set up to deal with any questions regarding the sheet piling work on 01275 393933.
