AN ANCIENT tribal 'talking stick' is being used to bring peace and quiet to North Somerset Council meetings.Green councillor Tom Leimdorfer hushed other councillors at a North Somerset Council meeting on Tuesday by introducing the stick, made with animal sinew and feathers.The device brings silence to Guatamalian Indian tribal meetings as it forces elders to listen to whoever is holding the stick.The tool did the job on Tuesday and councillors were all ears as Cllr Leimdorfer held up the stick before arguing about an impending clash of important meetings.Cllr Leimdorfer, who represents Congresbury, said: "My son brought it back from the Americas."I had a hunch that during a contentious item, there may be a time when councillors might interrupt each other and the stick might do some good.
