PARENTS are being warned not to buy toy guns for their children this Christmas. Police in Burnham and Highbridge have been called to three incidents in the last week where imitation guns have been seen by the public, prompting emergency calls. In many cases, specialist firearm police have been called to deal with the incidents, with those holding the toys putting themselves in serious danger.Sergeant Ian Kennett, of Burnham police, said: "Many people do not realise how alarming these toys can be to other members of the public, who then call the police to say someone is walking around with a weapon."A number of shops in the area have been selling replica guns and firearms, and police are currently speaking to traders and hope parents will heed the warning. Sgt Kennett added: "If a police officer sees someone carrying a firearm in a public place, whether it be imitation or not, they risk arrest and prosecution."* Pictured: A typical imitation gun (top), with the genuine article (below).
