HOMEOWNERS across North Somerset are being warned about the dangers of door to door salesman.North Somerset Trading Standards team is warning people to take extra caution if approached by tradesmen offering to do tarmaking, block paving, guttering repairs or other improvement jobs.A North Somerset Council spokesman said: "Many itinerant tradesmen offer no information about themselves or their company."They often fail to provide written information about cancellation rights and may have no proven skill to carry out the jobs that they offer to complete."Some are creating work, during the visit, by damaging the roof or guttering that they were employed to repair and they then charge very high prices for the completed task."Some operate with modern, professionally sign written vehicles which appear to be entirely legitimate and use local accommodation addresses and phone numbers - so judging a genuine trader is not easy."If you think you, or a neighbour, have been approached by doorstep tradesmen you can help by reporting the incident to, or seeking advice from, Trading Standards on 08454 040 506 or e-mail trading.standards@n-somerset.gov.uk
