An East Brent woman has been given an award for service to the community.
Betty Griffin was acknowledged by Somerset County Council for her role in helping to organise and run the East Brent Harvest Home.
Betty began helping at the event in 1951 and has served as its joint secretary for 31 years.
Her role involves sourcing marquees, preparing food and brewing cider.
Jim Murray, East Brent Parish Council’s clerk, said: “Betty’s name is synonymous with East Brent Harvest Home. Yes, she’s celebrated for her cider and Christmas puddings but, most importantly, she’s known for helping people to run the event.
“These include a team of waiters, many of whom started as teenagers and are still serving tables today, all due to Betty’s influence.”
Nigel Taylor, Somerset County Council’s chairman, presented Betty with the award.
