Calls for seafront swimming pool in Weston-super-Mare have been dismissed again by North Somerset Council.

At the council’s meeting on Tuesday, Uphill’s councillor John Ley-Morgan quizzed Cllr David Pasley, the authority’s executive member for finance and asset management, over the possibility of creating a seafront pool, and invited him to visit the ‘hugely successful’ Blue Lagoon complex in Pembrokeshire.

But Cllr Pasley reaffirmed the council’s position on the issue.

He said: “The answer is no, not on the seafront, but we hope to develop the leisure centre at Hutton Moor.

“It is our intention to build a swimming pool there.

“To commit that sort of public investment into something like the Blue Lagoon at the seafront at this moment in time would be entirely inappropriate.

“But there’s nothing stopping private investment coming forward, and what could be better than someone doing that on Weston’s seafront?”
