A campaign has been launched today (Monday) to deter people from using their mobiles when driving in the South West.
Avon and Somerset Constabulary is working with Wiltshire and Gloucestershire police on the campaign which will run until Sunday.
Police Superintendent for Avon and Somerset, Andy Williams, said: “Mobile phone use continues to be a big concern we hear from the public.
“As part of this week of action we are encouraging drivers to use their ‘do not disturb’ driving mode on their smartphone to stop them from getting distracted.”
Up-to-date iPhone and Samsung mobiles offer the do not disturb mode, which stops incoming calls, texts and notifications from being received when driving.
People caught using a mobile phone behind the wheel can receive six points on their licence and a £200 fine.
